Based in Nottinghamshire, ROMO was founded in 1902 by Robert Mould, who gave his name to the company. Today ROMO remains a family-run business and is jointly owned by the founder's great grandsons, Jonathan and Robert, who are passionately committed to its continuing success and development. Originally small-scale furniture manufacturers, ROMO became wholesalers to the upholstery industry in the 1930's, supplying furnishing fabrics and components for the manufacture of furniture. The business continued to evolve until upholstery manufacture ceased and the supply of furnishing fabrics became the company's primary focus. The company designs and markets exclusive furnishing and upholstery fabrics, wallcoverings and trimmings, employing over 180 people at its two sites in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, where it warehouses thousands of stock lines. Design creativity and the highest quality of product and service are central to the ethos and success of the company. ROMO markets thousands of furnishing fabrics including classic and contemporary prints, damasks, silks, jacquards, chenilles, velvets and an extensive selection of plains and semi-plains. The company's reputation for offering a variety of excellent designs and qualities is built on two important factors; exclusive designs from its experienced and committed design team and a close working-relationship with carefully chosen, expert weavers and printers. Significant investment is made each year in product development. Innovative new collections are continually developed and coloured to the Romo colour palette by the in-house design team. In Europe subsidiary offices operate in: Barcelona, Brussels, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Salzburg, Turin and Utrecht. Worldwide, an extensive network of distributors sells ROMO's exclusive collections to interior designers, independent retailers and department stores in over 36 country’s. New products are regularly showcased at trade exhibitions in the UK and Europe.
