George Percival and James Baker formed GP& J Baker in 1884. Later, the acquisitions of two reputable companies one known for design and making wood printing blocks and the other a silk printer, provided a precious collection of documents and designs, later to form the basis of the celebrated Baker archives. During the 1920’s and 1930’s, GP& J Baker developed a worldwide reputation for hand screen- printing. Linens were printed by block and lighter cottons by copper rollers, which gave a finer detail. GP & J Baker has been producing top quality curtain and upholstery fabrics since 1893. Beautiful prints and weaves have been produced by our in-house design studio for over 100 years resulting in a fascinating design archive which has even been the subject of an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert museum. This archive is still referred to today enabling the design team to create collections for the discerning customer based on genuine archive designs.
